One Indicted for Weapons Charge, Another on Assault Charge

The grand jury handed up the indictment Sept. 1

A Monmouth County jury indicted two men on Sept. 1 on charges stemming from a May 23 incident that occurred in Aberdeen Township, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

The four-count indictment charges Terrance Bardon, 21, of Jackson, with fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and James Rogers, 24, of Matawan, with third-degree aggravated assault on a police officer, third-degree resisting arrest, and fourth-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

According to police, Bardon was allegedly in possession of a baseball bat, "under circumstances not manifestly appropriate," the indictment said.

Police say that Rogers allegedly threatened to use physical force against an officer after being informed of his arrest, and he attempted to cause injury to the officer. The indictment also alleges that Rogers was in possession of cocaine at the time of his arrest.

The grand jury's vote does not determine guilt or innocence, only that charges may be brought against the people named in the indictment.
