Motorcyclist Charged with Eluding Police

The Aberdeen PD charged a man with eluding police after a pursuit continued through Aberdeen and along the seawall yesterday

The Aberdeen Township Police have charged Jose A. Beniquez, Jr., 35, of Vineyard Avenue, South Amboy, with eluding police after a pursuit on July 5. 

At approximately 8:00 p.m. last night, Officer Raymond Campbell attempted to stop a 2003 Kawaski motorcycle on Lennox Road for running a stop sign.

The driver sped away east on Cliffwood Avenue to South Concourse, then turned onto Beach Drive. The motorcyclist then drove onto the paved walkway along the Cliffwood Beach seawall heading north, the Aberdeen Township Police Department said.

Officer Campbell proceeded down an access road paralleling the seawall and located the driver, later identified as Beniquez, running through reeds and underbrush adjacent to Treasure Lake.

According to police, Beniquez then began swimming across the lake in the direction of Woodland Drive. He was apprehended in a brushy area near Woodland Drive. The motorcycle was recovered on the access road.  

Beniquez was charged with eluding police, unlicensed driver, speeding, reckless driving, and several other motor vehicle offenses.  Bail was set at $50,000.00 and he was committed to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in default of bail.

Assisting Officer Campbell were Sgt. David Mauro and Officer Frank Maisano.
