Matawan Police Seek Help in Locating Stolen Speed Sign

Sign can be returned no questions asked, chief said

The Matawan Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a speed warning sign that was stolen from Beechwood Terrace last weekend.

“This sign was paid for with your tax dollars and someone stole it. Help us get it back,” the department wrote on its Facebook page.

Chief Jason Gallo said that the sign can be returned, no questions asked, simply by putting it back in its usual spot.

“It would be a good holiday gift to the town,” he said. “But, if we catch you first, the deal’s off.”

The cost of the sign is $300, mostly because of the rubber base, the department said. The department has three other signs, which were removed from roadways by the town during recent snow plowing operations.
