Matawan Police Get New SUV for Emergency Unit

The vehicle will be used by the Advanced Services Unit, which handles emergency situations while fire and first aid are in transit.

The Matawan Police Department acquired a new SUV to replace an outdated Crown Victoria, according to its Facebook page.

The vehicle will be used for the department's Advanced Services Unit (ASU). Matawan's ASU officers are trained emergency medical technicians and receive advanced training beyond that of other patrol officer and first responders, according to the department's website.

The ASU vehicle has specialized equipment, such as a defibrillator and the jaws of life. The new SUV is equipped to handle emergency situations while first aid and fire services are in transit.
