Matawan Police Department Accepting Applications for Special Police Officer

Applications for the position must be received by Dec. 18.

The borough council authorized the Matawan Police Department to advertise, interview and make recommendations for a class two special police officer (SLEO2) at their Dec. 6 regular action meeting.

According to Lt. Jason Gallo, the commanding officer, the position is part-time and would help supplement the current force.

"It is a great opportunity and a foot in the door to a law enforcement career," he said.

Officer Andrew Marsala, who serves as the Matawan PBA Local #179 president, urged the council at recent meetings to begin the hiring process for the department, as a number of retirements are anticipated in the coming year.

"We’re happy that the mayor and council are moving forward with providing the personnel that we need," he said. "We appreciate them moving so swiftly."
