Matawan police issued 169 summonses and arrested six as part of its Distracted Driver Initiative, according to Sgt. Thomas J. Falco.
Police conducted the program from Monday, Sept. 9 through Friday Sept. 13 to coincide with the first week of school. Officers' efforts focused on cell phone use and other facets of distracted driving, Falco said in a press release.
The police will conduct similar initiatives throughout the school year, according to Falco.
