Matawan PD Investigating Robbery at Papa John's

Police say the suspect entered the pizzeria and took money from the register

The is investigating a robbery that took place at on July 18 shortly before 11:45 p.m., according to Sgt. Thomas Falco.

A Papa John's employee told police that a black male entered the business while he was counting money from the register, Falco said. The employee recognized the man from being in the pizzeria the night before and the man reached out his arm as if to shake the employee's hand, the employee told police. As the employee reached his hand out, the man grabbed about $400 in cash from the register and the employee's cell phone, according to Falco. He then fled on foot.

The man was described as being in his twenties, being about six feet tall, and wearing black clothing with bright laced Nike sneakers and a ball cap.

Ptl. Jeffrey Bodner, Ptl. Jonathan Borsari and Sgt. Jeremiah Hourihan were the initial responding officers. The Marlboro Twp. Police K-9 Unit responded and assisted in the search for the suspect. Detective Joseph Lovallo is continuing the investigation.
