Matawan Man Indicted on Drug Charges in Asbury Park

Investigators say he intended to sell a narcotic near a school.

A Monmouth County grand jury voted to indict a Matawan man on charges he was in possession of drugs in the area of a school and a public housing facility in Asbury Park.

Investigators say Calgiano Ulysse, of Crossroad Avenue, had methylone on him within 1,000 feet of Mount Carmel School and within 500 feet of Washington Village. He allegedly had the intent to sell the drug, investigators say.

According to the FBI, Methylone provides a similar effect as ecstasy and is often sold under the guise of "bath salts." The narcotic is becoming increasingly popular among teens and young adults.

Ulysse was indicted on a total of four charges, including third degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), third degree possession of a CDS with intent to distribute, third degree possession of a CDS within 1,000 feet of a school with intent to distribute and second degree possession of a CDS within 500 feet of a public housing facility.

An indictment does not indicate a conviction, only that a grand jury voted there was enough evidence to proceed with a trial.
