Matawan Man Charged with Keyport Shell Station Hold-Up

He brandished a box-cutter knife and assaulted the cashier before fleeing with the entire cash register, police say.

Police have arrested a Matawan man who assaulted a Keyport Shell Gas Station attendant during a robbery at 2:30 in the morning on April 7. They say he is the same man caught on surveillance tape in this video.

Richard E. Kinzler, 25, of Johnson Avenue in Matawan, was arrested Wednesday by the New Jersey State Police and Keyport Police Department, announced Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

Kinzler has been charged with first degree counts of armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Kinzler is being held in the county jail in Freehold Township on $150,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent as set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Richard W. English, J.S.C.

Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
