Man Charged with DWI After Striking Guardrail Near Beach Drive in Aberdeen

He was flown to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center with possible injuries after the one-vehicle accident.

A Whiting man is facing DWI charges after an accident in Cliffwood Beach Wednesday night.

According to Chief John Powers, Jason Finnerty, 38, was driving a 2006 Mercury on South Concourse toward the Raritan Bay at about 8 p.m. when he struck the guardrail at the end of the road near Beach Drive.

Finnerty was flown to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center by helicopter with possible internal injuries.

He is charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

The accident resulted in damage to the guardrail and minor damage to the township sewer pump station, which is located there, Powers said. The pump station remains functional, he said.

The accident was investigated by P.O. Frank Maisano, P.O. Brian Albert and Sgt. Matthew Lloyd. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Lloyd at 732-583-4200 ext. 222.
