Man Charged with Attempted Murder of Matawan Man

A Long Island man was arrested Friday evening after allegedly trying to kill a Matawan man with a knife.

Police charged a New York man Friday night with the attempted murder of a Matawan man at his home on Main Street, according to a the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Public Information Officer Charlie Webster.

A 37-year-old Matawan man walked into the Borough Police Department at 12:59 a.m. Friday with lacerations to his neck and hands and told police his attacker was a former roommate, according to Webster. The victim was transported to Bayshore Community Hospital and later released.

Police arrested Marlo Reyes Barquero, 28, at his home in Huntington Station, Long Island and charged him with attempted murder and weapons offenses, according to Webster.

The incident remains under investigation.

Bail was set at $500,000 with no 10 percent cash option by Judge Vernoia.
