A Laurence Harbor man is facing several charges after he allegedly ran from an Aberdeen Township police officer in Cliffwood Beach.
Police say Jahrid Grenfell, 23, was in a vehicle on Seawood Drive at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 when Ptl. Michael Lasko stopped him and asked for identification.
It was then revealed that there was a warrant from the Monmouth County Superior Court for Grenfell's arrest. Police say that when Lasko told Grenfell he was under arrest, he ran.
Several other officers responded to the scene to assist in apprehending Grenfell, Police Chief John Powers explained. Grenfell was arrested soon after on Brookside Avenue and was found to have a substance suspected to be cocaine on him.
One officer sustained an ankle injury during the incident and was transported and later released from the hospital, Powers said.
Grenfell is charged by Aberdeen Township with resisting arrest and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Bail was set at $10,000 with no 10% cash option.
Bail for the Monmouth County Superior Court warrant was also set at $10,000 with no 10% option.
Ptl. Mary Johnston, Special Officer Michael Scarpa and Sgt. Frank Sigismondi all responded to the scene.
