Keyport Man Facing Point Boro Burglary Charges

Man accused of robbing O'Brien's Florist, Dairy Queen, Touch of Class salon and office building, all on Bridge Avenue

A Keyport man has been charged in connection with commercial burglaries on Bridge Avenue in Point Borough, police said on Tuesday afternoon.

John G. Killian, 35, was charged on Friday by Point Borough Detectives Edward Miller, Joseph Hynes and Detective Lt. Adam Picca after an extensive investigation of eight commercial burglaries that occurred between Jan. 12 and May 17, according to a prepared statement released late Tuesday afternoon.

Killian, who was already held in the Monmouth County jail on unrelated charges, is now facing the following charges related to the Borough burglaries:

Jan. 12 - O'Brien's Florist, 2434 Bridge Ave.: burglary, theft of approximately $1,500 in cash and criminal mischief to various pieces of office equipment, causing a loss of about $6,000.

March 12 - Dairy Queen, 2502 Bridge Ave.: burglary, theft of approximately $730 in cash; and criminal mischief to a steel entry door, windows, cash register, frozen food products and electric meter, causing a loss of about $7,500.

April 1 - Touch of Class Hair Salon, 2610 Bridge Ave.: burglary, theft of cash and checks worth about $1,350 and criminal mischief to cash register and rear window, causing a loss of about $650.

April 23 - O'Brien's Florist, 2434 Bridge Ave.: burglary and criminal mischief to greenhouse cover and electrical wiring, causing a loss of about $2,000.

May 17 - Office Building, 2424 Bridge Ave.:

Suite 1: burglary and criminal mischief to entry door causing loss of about $1,875.

Suite 2: burglary; theft of about $350 in cash and about $375 in medications and criminal mischief to entry door causing a loss of about $1,875.

Suite 3: burglary, theft of about $587 in cash and property; and criminal mischief to office entry door and television causing a loss of about $2,135.

Suites 4 and 6: burglary and criminal mischief to door and window, causing a loss of about $800.

Killian was also charged with one count of burglary and theft for allegedly entering a vehicle parked on Barton Avenue on May 9. About $130 was stolen from the vehicle.

He is being held at the Monmouth County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
