Update: Traffic Lights Still Out Due to Downed Power Lines

Power lines on 516 came down around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, police say

Traffic lights remained out at multiple intersections Friday afternoon due to power lines that came down Thursday night.

The intersections at county road 516 and route 79, route 34 and Main Street and Aberdeen Road and Matawan Road were among those without power.

The downed power lines caused over 2,000 residents in Matawan and Aberdeen to lose power Thursday evening, according to Jersey Central Power & Lighting (JCP&L).

According to Matawan Lt. Ben Smith, the power lines on County Route 516 came down at about 10:30 p.m. It is unknown whether the power lines came down on their own or if an animal was involved.

As of 11:22 p.m. Oct. 13, JCP&L reported that power was restored in Aberdeen and that 500 households or less were without power in Matawan.

As of 2:45 p.m. Fri. Oct. 14, power was restored to residents but traffic lights remained out.
