Keyport Child Who Suffered Gunshot Wound in Stable Condition

Police say the 10-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to his leg Monday night

A Keyport child accidentally shot himself in the leg while playing with a gun Monday at about 8 p.m. at his home on Broad Street, police said.

The gun is believed to be owned by a family member, however the incident is currently being investigated by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, according to police.

Keyport Chief of Police George Casaletto confirmed that a 10-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to his leg Monday night. The boy was transported by the Keyport First Aid Squad to the trauma center at Jersey Shore Medical Center.

The gunshot wound is not serious, and the boy is expected to be fine, Casaletto said.
