Cab Driver Stabbed in Aberdeen

Passenger stole cab and attempted to run over driver following the stabbing.

A cab driver was stabbed and his vehicle stolen in Aberdeen Saturday night, Police Chief John Powers confirmed.

The 55-year-old driver picked up a fare at the Keyport 7-Eleven and drove to nearby Wayside Drive in the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, where the passenger began to stab the man, Powers said. The assailant stole the driver’s vehicle, but returned and attempted to run over the victimized driver before fleeing again, according to Powers.

The received a call about the stabbing at 11:45 p.m. The cab driver was medevaced to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and remains in critical condition.

Authorities do not have a suspect in custody.

In an unrelated incident, a female driver working for of Matawan reported being robbed at knifepoint on May 21 in Holmdel.

The she was dropping off a male customer in the Orchards development off Laurel Avenue around 4:10 p.m. when he pulled out a knife and demanded money and the keys to the vehicle.

She was not injured.
