Accused Monmouth County Burglars Indicted in Matawan, Aberdeen, Keyport Incidents

The series of boat and car burglaries took place in Summer 2011.

A Monmouth County jury voted on Tuesday Feb. 7 to indict two Cliffwood men on 27 counts stemming from their alleged burglaries of cars and boats in Matawan, Aberdeen and Keyport in July and August of 2011.

The charges against Sean Finley, 21, and Nickolas Scarpellino, 20, included one count of burglary in the second degree, 17 counts of burglary in the third degree, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon in the second degree, four counts of theft of movable property in the third degree and one count of taking/receiving movable property in the third degree.

Aberdeen Township police say that on July 26, 2011, Finley and Scarpellino and stole fishing equipment, including two stocked tackle boxes, two fishing poles, two filet knives and two bunker knives.

Keyport Borough police say that on July 26, 2011, Finley and Scarpellino unlawfully entered twelve separate boats and took a variety of items, including a handgun, a rifle, fishing gear valued in excess of $500 and a flare gun.

During the robbery of one of the boats, police allege that the men stole and were in possession of a 40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun without a permit. The handgun and rifle were found at Finley's aparment after his arrest, according to the Matawan Police Department.

Scarpellino was also accused of resisting arrest for three days and sparking a manhunt in Marlboro, Matawan and Aberdeen. On the third day, he called police to turn himself in and was arrested at his father's apartment in Matawan. He was not charged or indicted for resisting arrest.

At the time of their arrest, Matawan Borough police said they believed the two were also responsible for burglaries in Manalapan, Spotswood, Marlboro and .
