Aberdeen PD: TaxiCab Driver Held Up By Knife-Wielding Man

The Aberdeen Township police are investigating the recent robbery of a taxicab driver in the middle of the night.

At approximately 2 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, a driver for La Costera picked up a fare at Marc Hampton apartments in Matawan and drove him to Barrington Gardens apartments on Aberdeen Road in Aberdeen, according to Aberdeen Police.

The passenger then produced a knife and demanded money.  He took cash, a cell phone, and the victim’s wallet and fled on foot toward Long Brook apartments in Matawan, police said.

The taxi driver described the person as a thin white male in his 20s, wearing a black hooded jacket and black pants, with a tattoo on his right hand.

Aberdeen Police officer Martin Walsh and Det. Sgt. Henry Chevalier investigated.  Anyone having information is asked to contact the Detective Bureau at 732-566-2054.
