Aberdeen Man Accused of Jewelry Theft in Matawan

Investigators say he stole jewelry while a guest at a Matawan home.

An Aberdeen Township man was charged with allegedly stealing jewelry from a Matawan home, according to Lt. Ben Smith.

On Aug. 27, a Forrest Avenue resident reported to police that jewelry was stolen from the residence, where Christian Mead, 23, was a guest for a couple of weeks.

The jewelry reported stolen was pawned on Sept. 17 in Hazlet. Later that morning, Mead was brought in by the Matawan Borough Police Department for questioning, Smith said.

Mead was charged with theft after being questioned and released on a summons.

A court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 24.

Detective Steven Sakowski was the arresting officer.

An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
