Give campaign funds back to the community!

Signs, soundbytes, robo-calls, and other campaign ads all cost countless dollars. Where's the fiscal responsibility? Politicians should give that money back to the community they hope to represent.

The Huffington Post ran an article today called Romney 'Day One' Ad Promises To End 'Obama Era Of Big Government'. The advertisement voiceover says “Day one, President Romney announces deficit reductions, ending the Obama era of big government, helping secure our kids’ futures. President Romney stands up to China on trade and demands they play by the rules. President Romney begins repealing job-killing regulations that are costing the economy billions.

That sounds great but just how is this going to happen? Will Romney fold his arms and blink like the old TV show “I Dream of Jeanie” and the Chinese Government will suddenly allow us to do whatever we want?

This is not a bash on Republicans because Democrats do the same thing; they use soundbytes that sound dramatic but say nothing. Soundbytes without plans are worthless; they have no substance. And in some cases they are worse than worthless because they promote unfounded fears. They are a waste of money.

Locally, politicians litter sidewalks with their signs that say nothing but name, party and sometimes the position for which they are running. Has anyone ever looked a one of these signs and said, “Gee I like the way the person spells their name: I’m going to vote for them!” They are a waste of money.

And the robo-calls are just plain annoying. Why can politicians bypass the Do Not Call List? What a waste of money; the script is usually written by someone other than the politician, so you’re not even listening to that politician’s words.

Do politicians think the public is stupid? Are they right? Do we care about more about glitz than we do message content? How many millions of dollars were spent creating, selling and showing these political ads? Imagine how much that money would have helped so many organizations!

If politicians put their campaign funding back into the community they hope to represent, we definitely would see positive change! Otherwise, the money should be spent on educational advertisements with plans of how their soundbytes will be achieved.
