Over 800 lbs of Litter Collected at Cliffwood Beach

Letter from the Chairman of the Aberdeen Township Environmental & Shade Tree Advisory Board

Dear Editor:

We would like to thank the 63 individuals who participated in Clean Ocean Action’s Fall Beach Sweep last Saturday, in Aberdeen Township.

832 pounds of litter was recorded by John Minton, the Monmouth County Clean Communities coordinator, who hauled away the trash.  Considering that the most abundant items were bottle caps and plastic bags, that's a lot bending, picking up, and counting!   Most of the flotsam was too heavy to carry. An estimated 90 cubic yards of lumber and tree parts, as well as a 30-foot sail boat, landed on our beach as a result of Hurricane Irene.

We would like to personally thank Mayor Fred Tagliarini, Councilman Greg Cannon and Planning Board Member Robert Swindle for their support and participation.

Our success would not have been possible without the participation of the following groups:

  • St. Benedict's Girls Outdoor Adventure Club - Mrs. Donna Tagliarini - advisor
  • Matawan Regional High School Environmental Club - Mrs. Louise Tomasello - advisor
  • St. Catherine of Sienna - Farmingdale NJ - Dan Sakowski - director
  • Cub Pack – 66, Dens 9 and 16

Sincerely,

Frank Huza

Chairman, Aberdeen Township Environmental & Shade Tree Advisory Board
