U.S. Navy Vet James J. Butler, 78, of Keyport

A memorial gathering is scheduled for Saturday

James J. Butler, 78, of Keyport, passed away, Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel.

Born in the Bronx, NY, he lived in Union Beach before moving to Keyport. He served his country in the United States Army.

James held various positions for 30 years with Gristede Brothers Food Chain; and also worked as a truck driver for H.J. Bailey, Neptune. He was a member of the VFW, Keyport; and was a communicant of Holy Family RC Church, Union Beach. 

James is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Clara (Staats) Butler. He is survived by his beloved wife, June (Serenson) Butler of Keyport; his loving children, James Butler of Ocean Grove, John Butler and his wife Rebecca of Matawan, Jeanine Gaffney and her husband Jim of St. Augustine, FL, and Jillian Hottle and her husband Dean of Hebrew City, UT; and seven cherished grandchildren.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. 

A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, Jan. 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. and7 to 9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, with a service at the funeral home during viewing hours. Cremation was private.
