Union Beach Navy Veteran Peter F. Cassidy Dies at 73

Services are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday

The following was submitted by the Evergreen Memorial Home:

Peter F. Cassidy, 73, of Union Beach died Friday, Jan. 3, after a courageous struggle with cancer.

Peter grew up in Linden.  After high school, he proudly served his country in the Navy, where he was stationed in Key West, Florida, and Holy Loch, Scotland.

He later joined the Linden Fire Department in 1971, where he enjoyed a fulfilling and rewarding career as a firefighter and Lieutenant.  He was blessed to have loved his job and retired in 2001.

Pete enjoyed his retirement years fishing, boating, hunting and golfing, while remaining an active member of the Legislative Committee of the N.J. Relief Exempt Association, which Pete was a lifetime member.

Pete also enjoyed and was an active member of the St. Joseph’s Council of the Knights of Columbus, 4th degree.  He was a Past Grand Knight, and Past Faithful Navigator.  

Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with cherished family and friends.  Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Eileen, daughters: Maryann Cassidy, Teresa Bennett, Colleen Hicks and Son-in-laws Brandon Bennett and Michael Hicks; three grandchildren: Bridget Bennett, Gavin Bennett and Sean Hicks.  

Peter is also survived by his sister Margaret Semrad, and brothers Joseph, John and Thomas Cassidy.  He is also survived by loving In-Laws, as well as wonderful nieces and nephews; he will be greatly missed by all.   

Peter will be reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services 1735 Rt. 35 Middletown, N.J. 07748, on Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family R.C. Church on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Keyport.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Peter’s memory to Freehold Birthright, 49 East Main Street, Freehold, N.J. 07728.
