Professional Comic, Veteran Dies at 93

Visitation for Samuel J. Lombarde will begin Saturday, July 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Hazlet.

Samuel J. Lombarde, 93, of Matawan passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11 at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel.

He was born June 15, 1920 in the Marion Section of Jersey City where as a young man he developed his comedic skills in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish's variety shows. Sammy served proudly in the United States Navy during World War II and retired from Western Electric as a route clerk before settling in Matawan in 1991. During his professional career as a comic, Sammy regularly performed at major resorts in the Catskill and Pocono mountains. His crowning achievements were performing as the opening act for Jerry Vale, Sergio Frankie and Frankie Lane. Sammy headlined an engagement at Caesars Atlantic City with Jimmy Roselli.

Samuel was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Mary (Mastrola) Lombardi, his sister, Anne O'Connor, and his beloved son, Salvatore Lombarde. Samuel is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Victoria D. (Maraziti) Lombarde, his loving son, Joseph R. Lombarde and his wife Lisa of Hazlet, New Jersey, his dear son in law, John Pantozzi, his sister in law, Christina Cavalli, his adored grandson, Joseph Lombarde, his cherished nieces and nephews, Christine Redmond, Elena Mele, Rosanne Velardo, Bernadette McLaughlin, Chucky Cavalli and Charlie Azarello, along with his special cousins, Marilyn DeStefano, Katherine DiGuglielmo, and Vivian O'Rourke. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, July 13 from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, July 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday morning, July 15 from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3269 State Route 35 North, Hazlet. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, July 15 at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Laurence Harbor at 9 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City.
