MARSD School Nurse Helen M. Dolan Dies at 92

Dolan also worked as an instructor for the vocational certified nursing assistant program at MARSD.

Helen M. (Pittius) Dolan, 92, a lifelong resident of the Aberdeen/Matawan area, passed away, Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Bayshore Health Care Center, Holmdel. For 23 years, she was the school nurse in the Matawan/Aberdeen Regional School District; which led to being an instructor of the vocational certified nursing assistant program at MARSD.  She worked with the NJ State Department of Education formulating the curriculum and establishing a program for the first time in the high school.  For many years, she was a teacher and adviser for the Health Occupations Students of America organization (HOSA).  She was a member of the Matawan United Methodist Church, Aberdeen; and was the president of the Rosehill Cemetery Association. 

Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harold J. Dolan in 1993; a son, Harold J. Dolan in 1983; a daughter, Tamara M. Dolan in 1943; her parents, Joseph T. and Lillian (Menzel) Pittius; siblings, Joseph H. Pittius, Robert Pittius, Elizabeth Visconi, John Pittius, Herbert Pittius and William Pittius.   She is survived by her loving daughter, Wendy Walnock and her husband Richard of Manchester; her siblings, August Pittius of PA; Lillian Poling of Red Bank; and Emma Jane Nadler of FL: cherished grandchildren,  Matthew Walnock, Mark Walnock and Melissa Walnock; and three cherished great grandchildren, Zachary, Meagan and Taylor.   She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are invited Tuesday, March 4, 2014, 2-4 & 7-9PM, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ  07735; and  Wednesday, 9:15AM at the funeral home, with a10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph RC Church, Keyport.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph Health Ministry, 376 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ  07735, in memory of Helen.  To post an online condolence to the family or for directions to the funeral home, please visit www.dayfuneralhome.com.
