Longtime Cliffwood Resident Irene M. Kabana Dies at 91

Services scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday

The following was submitted by Day Funeral Home: 

Irene M. (Sovinee) Kabana, 91, of Cliffwood, passed away, Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at home, surrounded by her family.  

Born in Union, she resided in Hillside, before settling in Cliffwood 50 years ago. As a young lady, she delivered vegetables from a wagon in Union and later worked in the factory, at Connectron, Laurence Harbor.

Irene was predeceased by her parents John and Mary (Gregor) Sovinee;  her loving husband Andrew;  sisters, Margaret Gerber, Rose Finnerty, Helen Uhrin and brothers, Rudy and Jack Sovinee. She is survived by her children and their spouses Andrew and Fumi Kabana of Imperial Beach, CA and Carolyn and Grady Carter of Cliffwood; her brother, Frank Sovinee; her sister, Eleanor Rinear; and three loving grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m., at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735; and Thursday, Jan. 23 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph RC Church, Keyport. Interment will follow at St. Bertha’s Cemetery, Walker Township, PA.
