Keyport Veteran, Minister Dies at 86

Anthony A. Demarro, a longtime resident of Keyport, passed away June 10, at Bayshore Health Care Center in Holmdel.

Anthony A. Demarro, 86, a longtime resident of Keyport, passed away June 10, at Bayshore Health Care Center in Holmdel.

Demarro, a veteran, was born in East Harlem. He worked for the NYC Sanitation Department retiring in the 1980’s. Demarro served his country in the Army, with the 119th Infantry, Anti Tank Company crewmen following the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged in August 1946. He was a Eucharist Minister with St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Keyport Senior Center and prepared countless meals for Meals on Wheels.   

Demarro was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Rose (Romandetto) Demarro; and a brother, Vincent Ciro Demarro. He is survived by two nephews, Steven Demarro of Toms River and Vincent Demarro of Chadds Ford, PA; two nieces, Joanne Garrison of Point Pleasant and Bobbie Knight of Loogootee, IN; and many great nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited Wednesday, June 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport; and Thursday, June 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph RC Church in Keyport. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Mausoleum in Keyport.
