Former Cliffwood Elementary School Teacher Dies at 87

Mary A. Lovely Hayden, 87, of San Diego, California died Sunday January 20, 2013 at home. Born in South Amboy, she lived there until moving to San Diego 5 years ago.

Before retiring in 1988 she was employed as a school teacher at the Cliffwood Avenue School, Aberdeen for 40 years. She was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, South Amboy where she served as a Eucharist Minister and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Senior Citizens. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Sancta Maria #382, serving as Regent, District Deputy and Grand Regent. She was also a member and past president of the South Amboy Senior Citizens and a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in South Amboy. A 1946 graduate of Newark State Teachers College, she was a member of the Matawan-Aberdeen Education Assn., the NJEA and the NEA.

Daughter of the late Adam and Mary Leonard Lovely, she was also predeceased by her husband, John J. Hayden in 1999, her son, John E. Hayden in 1979, her brothers, Joseph and Adam Lovely and her sister, Theresa Dioguardi. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Theresa and Thomas Boychuk of Parlin and Judith and John Chamuler of San Diego; her brothers, Thomas Lovely of Neptune and James Lovely of Morgan; 5 grandchildren, Daniel, Valerie, Michael, Thomas and Mary Ellen and 4 great grandchildren, Vincent, Alexis, Landon and Carter.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 26, 2013 at 10 a.m. from The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals" 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, South Amboy. Interment will follow at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Visitation will be on Saturday morning only from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
