Cliffwood Beach Resident Dorothy Houlihan Dies at 85

Houlihan was a mother of three and grandmother of eight.

Dorothy Mulvaney Houlihan, 85, passed away on March 12 at Bayshore Health Care Center.

Dorothy “Sissy” was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Catherine Mulvaney of Jersey City, her husband of 41 years, Christopher Houlihan and her son, Christopher Houlihan Jr. of Hazlet. 

She leaves behind her son, Michael Houlihan of Cliffwood Beach, her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Paul Sobin of Cliffwood Beach and her daughter-in-law, Deborah Houlihan, of Hazlet.

She had eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren whom she adored. 

Dorothy grew up in Jersey City. Her claim to fame was singing on the same stage as Frank Sinatra. She met the love of her life in Hoboken and married him when he returned from the War in 1947. She and her family moved to Cliffwood Beach in 1957.

Always the life of the party, Dorothy enjoyed singing, dancing, playing cards, going to Bingo and spending good times with her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
