Active Volunteer, Union Beach Native William Marinella Jr. Dies at 81

William “Bill” E. Marinella Jr., 81, of Marlboro, passed away, Thursday, February 6, 2014, at home.  Born in Union Beach, he resided there for 77 years before moving to Marlboro.  He was a 1951 graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School, where he met Mary Lord, his high school sweetheart.  He worked for IFF as a Hazardous Material Specialist for 45 years, retiring in 1997.   He served his country in the Army during the Korean War.  Bill served his community in many capacities.  He was a First-Aid volunteer for 30 years and an EMT instructor; an American Heart instructor for CPR; an American Red Cross instructor; an Exempt Fireman with Union Beach Fire Company #1; Chairman of Juvenile Conference Committee; sanitary inspector with the Union Beach Board of Health; Chairman of the Zoning of Adjustment; Code Enforcement Officer; Little League Manager; and a member of the Rotary Club of Hazlet.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, William Marinella, Sr. and Filomena Julian; and a brother, Frank.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Lord) Marinella; his loving sons, William and his wife Angela of Aberdeen; Robert and his wife Donna of Auburn, NY; and John and wife Denise of Freehold Twp.; a dear sister Gloria Atkins and her husband Jay of Cheesequake section of Old Bridge; his cherished grandchildren, Marianne of Delaware; Kristin Clark and her husband Dustin of Auburn; Nicole of Auburn; and Ryan, Matthew and Michael, all of Freehold; and a niece and nephew, Lori Illingworth and Jay Atkins.   He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
