Christmas Musicale at the Burrowes Mansion in Matawan Dec. 9

The Matawan Historical Society is proud to present it's annual Christmas Musicale at Burrowes Mansion. This music event is sure to bring  the Irish cheer and spirit out in everyone this  holiday season.

The Society has once again invited the New Jersey-based Irish Band “Trinity.” back to Mansion. The band is known for their unique approach to traditional songs as well as their driving reels and jigs. This celtic band consists of a 6 member Irish band with traditional Irish instruments such as uilleann pipes, fiddles, flute, button accordion, tin whistles, bodhrán, mandolin, banjos, bouzouki and guitar with vocals. It’s members are local shore residents that have a lengthy and well versed background, with some sharing the stage with the one and only “Boss” Bruce Springsteen.

There is no better place to get in the holiday spirit and taking a step back in time especially in the Burrowes Mansion which was built in 1723. With its Georgian-style architecture, This beautiful home will be decorated for the season with lite trees and garland and filled with the sound of Irish/English holiday music. This event is sure to be an everlasting memory with friends and family this holiday season.

Musicale is a free event with light refreshments served. However a there is a suggested donation of $5 due to the preservation and historic restoration or purchase of their Limited handcrafted First Annual Holiday Ornament for $10. The Matawan Historical Society has undertaken the daunting task of repairing  Burrowes Mansion as the mansion is in dire need of extensive repairs and asking the local community to come out and show their support. The cedar roof that was replaced in 1993 was supposed to last 30 years and  is failing and needs replaced again.  This task is of the utmost importance as the roof protects the mansion and the history that it holds. The exterior facade of the mansion also requires extensive repairs as well as painting. Burrowes Mansion was placed on the National Historic Trust list in 1976.
