Matawan Company Joins Clean Action Ocean in Sandy Hook Beach Sweep

iCIMS swapped their business attire for sneakers and a day of giving back to Monmouth County

It was a sunny, Wednesday afternoon when employees of iCIMS and their friends and family gathered to help Clean Ocean Action tidy up an area of beach in Sandy Hook.

Volunteers took to the seven mile stretch of beach to remove pollution from the area in an effort to protect the over 300 species of migratory birds and forestry indigenous to the area, according to a press release issued by the company. They focused their efforts in Plum Island, on the bay side of Sandy Hook, explained iCIMS Talent Direct Patricia Morris Finaldi, who participated in the event.

Finaldi noted that she appreciated the help of Tavia Danch, education director at Clean Ocean Action, and her team, who educated and instructed the group of iCIMS volunteers.

"We separated into two teams and conducted a “scavenger hunt,” an educational exercise which helped us identify the dangers of certain pollutants and make the exercise fun for participants of all ages," said Finaldi via email.

iGIVE Back enables iCIMS and its employees to participate in charitable opportunities through partnerships with eco-friendly organizations such as Earth Share New Jersey and Clean Ocean Action. Employees can also make financial donations which will be matched by the company, as well as volunteer their time during office hours to park and beach clean-ups throughout the year.

“Having annual company-wide clean-ups is important and meaningful to the iCIMS family,” said Ron Kasner, iCIMS' chief corporate development officer. “Most of our employees live in the region they are helping to preserve and our organized volunteer events have set the tone for giving back by re-enforcing the fact that our actions at work can impact our personal lives."

Employees from iCIMS volunteer regularly for beach and park clean-ups, according to the release. Earlier this year, employees cleaning trash left behind by park visitors, rebuilding decrepit fences, and assisted state park rangers in the protection of the endangered Pink Lady’s Slipper at Cheesequake State Park.

According to CEO and found Colin Day, the employees' environmental awareness does not stop with local clean-ups.

“iCIMS recognizes that our organization is part of a much larger community through both our community service efforts and business conduct,” said Day.

“With that in mind, we try to go beyond Matawan, NJ and empower our customers to make a difference in their local environment and ‘go green’ through the use of iCIMS Talent Platform. The platform gives users the ability to digitize cover letters, resumes, and necessary paperwork; eliminating the need for hard copies,” he added.
