Several streets around Matawan will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 30, to accommodate the borough’s annual Turkey Trot.
The roads will be closed between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., according to the Matawan Police Department and Office of Emergency Management, “for the safety of the participants.”
The affected roads are:
- Main Street from Station Plaza to Route 34
- Ravine Drive from Main Street to Union Street
- Union Street from Ravine Drive to Aberdeen Road
- Aberdeen Road from Union Street to Main Street
“To accommodate this event and minimize inconvenience, all residents and businesses, specifically those within the affected areas, are urged to plan their travel with these road closures in mind,” reads a statement by officials. “Thank you for your cooperation and have a happy Thanksgiving.”
The post-Thanksgiving event, which benefits the borough’s parks, recreation programs and events, is billed as a way to “run off your stuffing.”
Registration on race day opens at 8 a.m. for the 10 a.m. contests at Terhune Park on Main and Broad Streets, according to organizers. The entry fee is $25, and children can participate in the free kiddy dash at 10:45 a.m.
Awards will be given to the top three male and female runners and the top finishers in numerous age groups.
Donations for the Matawan Food Pantry will be accepted at the event, according to organizers.
Registration can be completed online here.
