From NY to the White House: Matawan Dancer to Perform at National Tree Lighting

Program begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday

Just days after performing at the tree lighting in Rockefeller Center, a Matawan dance student is heading to the White House Friday to help the nation celebrate the holiday season.

Eight year old Jhailyn Farcon, who has trained at Arts in Motion Academy in Matawan for the past four years, was among the four dancers chosen from the New York show to participate at the 91st Annual National Christmas Tree Lighting.

"We are honored Jhailyn was chosen for such a special event," said AIM co-owner and instructor Kimberly Tam. "Her dedication to her craft and performance quality is inspirational. We are so excited for this performance and could not be more proud of our girl!"

Among the performers are Joshua Bell, Aretha Franklin, Arturo Sandoval and Train. The ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m.

Farcon recently completed a six-month international Broadway tour of “Billy Elliot.” She also spent two years performing at New York Knicks games as one of the “City Kidz” dancers.
