Aberdeen Joins The FoodBank in Declaring September as 'Hunger Action Month'

In honor of Hunger Action Month, The FoodBank created a "30 Ways in 30 Days" calendar

More than 66,000 individuals in Monmouth County rely on food distributed by The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties each year, according to a proclamation made by Mayor Fred Tagliarini along with the Aberdeen Township Council.

The proclamation declares September as Hunger Action Month in Aberdeen, stating that Aberdeen is, "committed to working with The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties in educating people about the role an importance of food banks in addressing hunger and raising awareness of the need to devote more resources and attention to hunger issues."

In honor of Hunger Action Month, The FoodBank created a "30 Ways in 30 Days" calendar of planned community events or suggestions for private events to raise awareness and donations.

Tuesday, Sept. 4

Suggestion: Host a Dinner Party and ask your guests to bring a donation or a perishable food item as the hostess gift.

Wednesday, Sept. 5

Suggestion: Host a Foodless Food Drive and encourage your civic organization to raise funds for the FoodBank.

Thursday, Sept. 6

Planned Event: Go orange! Wear orange or Go Orange digitally to show your support for Hunger Action Month.

Friday, Sept. 7

Suggestion: Initiate a Day of Service at your work place to help the FoodBank.

Saturday, Sept. 8

Planned Event: Attend San Gennaro’s Festival in Belmar Sept. 8 and 9 to benefit the FoodBank.

Sunday, Sept. 9

Suggestion: Today is Grandparents Day! Plan an activity with your grandparents to help fellow seniors.
