The Rutgers Master Gardeners of Monmouth County will present a workshop entitled “Gardening with Native Plants” on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Monmouth County Connection in Neptune.

Presented by Master Gardener Irene Wanat, the workshop will teach participants how to plan a landscape to include native plants. Native plant-landscapes are not only striking but add diversity that provides both color and beneficial habitat for birds, butterflies and other wildlife. Additionally, native plants are hardy and adapt well in their proper environment.  Irene’s presentation will show native shrub and perennial species that can be easily integrated into Monmouth County gardens.

Irene has been an active Master Gardener for over 22 years. She specializes in shade gardening, annuals, perennials, woody ornamentals, native plants and container gardening in both sunny and shady situations.

The workshop is free and open to all Monmouth County residents, but registration is required. To register, please call 732-303-2828.
