Aberdeen Township to Host Emergency Preparedness Meeting

Aberdeen Township will host an emergency preparedness meeting on Thursday, July 25, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School.

Created to help residents prepare for hurricanes and other natural disasters, the event will feature representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA), Monmouth County Office on Aging, JCP&L, Maxons Restoration, Monmouth County Health Department, Aberdeen Township Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Aberdeen Fire District # 1 and #2, Aberdeen Township Police Department, Aberdeen Township public works and construction officials, Helmetta Animal Control, and Castle of Dreams Animal Rescue.

Topics to be covered include: preparing a disaster kit, safe use of generators, caring for elderly and disabled members of the community and animal care.

"Superstorm Sandy taught us the importance of being prepared in the event of a natural disaster," said Mayor Fred Tagliarini.  "Knowing what simple steps to take prior to a natural disaster, such as a hurricane or blizzard, can make an enormous difference in one's safety and comfort.  We hope that members of the community will join us for this worthwhile and potentially life-saving meeting."

The event, open to Aberdeen residents is free.  Registration is required. To register, call (732) 583-4200, ext.102 and leave your name and number of attendees.

Matawan Aberdeen Middle School is located at 469 Matawan Avenue in the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen.
