Christie Claims All But One District in Matawan and Aberdeen

Barbara Buono won a single district in Aberdeen

Gov. Chris Christie defeated challenger Barbara Buono in all but one of the voting districts throughout Matawan and Aberdeen, Monmouth County election results show.

Buono, a Democrat, claimed her only victory within the two municipalities in Aberdeen’s second district, where she won by 70 votes.

In the township’s remaining 12 districts and mail-in ballot tallies, Christie won by healthy margins. In total, the Republican governor won 65 percent of the vote in Aberdeen, according to the county.

Though Aberdeen went mostly Republican in the governor’s race, residents did re-elect Democratic Mayor Fred Tagliarini who took 53 percent of the vote.

In Matawan, Christie claimed victory over Buono in all seven districts and mail-in ballot results, taking 68 percent of the vote, according to the county.

Christie’s margin of victory in Matawan and Aberdeen is wider than that statewide, where the governor won 60.5 percent of the vote, the Huffington Post reported.
