Update: About 20 Homes May Be Without Water for Eight Hours

Water main break in "I" section of Aberdeen leaves some homes without water

Multiple homes in Aberdeen Township are without water after a water main break on Imperial Place Saturday morning.

Homes on Imperial Place, in the "J" section of Strathmore and on Van Brackle Road are affected, according to Aberdeen Township Chief of Police John Powers.

According to Peter Eschbach, the director of communications and external affairs at New Jersey American Water, about 20 homes will be without water until the break can be prepared. He estimates that the project will take eight hours.

Eschbach said that the crew must first locate exactly where the break is.

"Just because you see the water coming up, it doesn't mean that is where the break is," Eschbach explained.

The crew must also mark off the gas lines and other utilities before beginning to dig.

"We estimate eight hours because in that part of Aberdeen, a lot of the water pipes are not buried in the street. They're buried under the sidewalk, harder to get to them and they are near gas lines and electrical wires," Eschbach said.

The crew will have water available for homes without water. Echbach said those affected by the break should pick up water for drinking and cooking from the crew.
