Keyport Tapes Up, Boards Up, Hunkers Down for Hurricane Irene

Storefronts reflect hurricane concerns in this Bayshore borough.

Keyport's Front Street on Saturday afternoon displayed the storm saavy befitting a Bayshore downtown that has seen many a hurricane in its time.

Mayor Robert McLeod has issued an emergency order declaring a 9 p.m. curfew Saturday night, extending through 9 p.m. Sunday. This followed a "voluntary evacuation order" for the period starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.

So it was quiet, along both Front Street and the newly-completed waterfront park behind it, as the borough waited to great Hurricane Irene.
