This Weekend in Matawan-Aberdeen

Indoor market, Community YMCA camp open house and Zumba are just some of the activities going on this weekend.

Friday, Feb. 1

Scholar-in-Residence Weekend with Author of Chicken Soup for the Jewish Soul, 8 p.m.

Temple Beth Ahm is hosting Rabbi Dov Peretz Elkins as this year’s Scholar-in-Residence. Co-author of Chicken Soup for the Jewish Soul, Rabbi Elkins is one of America's leading congregational rabbis. A prolific Jewish

story-teller, Rabbi Elkins is a winner of the National Jewish Book Award and author of numerous articles and 35 books, including The Wisdom of Judaism and his most recent Jewish Stories from Heaven and Earth.

Bingo, 8 p.m.

Join the Basillian Third Order for an exciting evening of Bingo at 360 Monastery Lane in Aberdeen. 

Rocky Horror Picture Show, 11 p.m.

The Friday Nite Specials cast performs at the Strathmore Cinema at 1055 Rt. 34 in Aberdeen. Shows are EVERY Friday at midnight and tickets cost $6.50. Stop by for a unique experience blending movie, live cast, and audience participation.

Saturday, Feb. 2

Indoor Market at First Friends Day Care, 9 a.m.

Stop by First Friends Day Care between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and peruse what local vendors have to offer this week. 

Design Academy at Communications High Open House, 10 a.m.

Does your child want to attend the Design Academy at Communications High School on New Bedford Road in Wall? The Monmouth County Vocational School will hold an open house on Saturday at 10 a.m. 

Community YMCA Camp Arrowhead Open House, 12 p.m.

The summer camp season runs from June 24 through August 23 at Camp Arrowhead in Marlboro.  Teens 16 and older who are interested in working at either camp are invited to take a tour and complete a job application.

Saturday Arts in Union Beach, 1:30 p.m.

Arts Healing Hearts, Inc. is a nonprofit organization created in an effort to ease the distress of children in areas hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy, starting with kids in Union Beach and surrounding communities. 

Sunday, Feb. 3

Zumba at Temple Shalom, 11 a.m. 

Temple Shalom is presenting an hour-long Zumba Fitness® lesson on Feb. 3 at 11:00 a.m. Michelle Silbert is the instructor. The session is open to the public, ages 13 and up. No experience is required. The cost for the session is $10.
