Plans Are in the Works for a New Pool Club in Aberdeen

The property owner has received all necessary permits and construction has begun

Whispers of a new swim club in Aberdeen have been sweeping through the township after construction began on Lloyd Road near the intersection of Cambridge Drive.

According to documents on file with the Aberdeen Township Planning, Zoning and Development office, construction is under way for the Cambridge Club, an outdoor swimming pool facility.

According to an Aug. 2008 article in the Independent, the Strathmore Bath and Tennis Club board of trustees sold the property and dissolved the club in 2008 after about 40 years of operation.

The property was purchased in 2008 by Frank Ward, of Matawan, according to the Aberdeen Township Planning, Zoning and Development office.

A few weeks ago, the documents indicate, Ward received the final go ahead from the township to begin construction on the property. Design plans include a rooftop deck, a covered seating area, a snack bar, shrubbery surrounding the property, and of course, a pool. (Make sure to see the plans attached to this article to see the layout and a rendering of the main building.)

Patrons will be able to enter the Cambridge Club from the lighted intersection at Cambridge Drive and Lloyd Road. The street will be extended into the club and will lead into a parking lot.

No information was available through the township about when the club is planning to open, what membership fees would cost, and what other amenities would be offered. Patch will follow up on this information.
