Monmouth County Publishes 2013 Accessible Beach Guide Online

Beach access information is available to assist those with disabilities.

To make summer beach going easier, Monmouth County has published its annual Accessible Beach Guide.

Information in the guide is organized alphabetically by town and beach. The guide offers details about beach fees, lifeguard hours and amenities, as well as accessible beach walkways and ramps, parking, curb cuts and surf chair availability, according to a county press release.

This year’s guide will be especially helpful with determining beach access as municipalities continue the rebuilding process post-Sandy.

“Providing barrier-free beach access is part of the rebuilding effort along Monmouth County’s 53 miles of coastline,” Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone said in the press release. “Superstorm Sandy dealt us quite a blow, but our towns are rebuilding and providing better access for all of our citizens. Some facilities may not be complete yet, so visitors can use this guide to find out about beaches, beach access and other amenities for individuals with disabilities.”

Municipal telephone numbers and websites are included in the guide to help beachgoers contact towns or beaches directly for specific information.
