Matawan Veteran to Grand Marshal Borough's Memorial Day Parade

The Matawan resident served in the Marines for 4 years.

Matawan resident and retired Unite States Marine Mike Plant will serve as the grand marshall of the borough's 2013 Memorial Day Parade, according to a press release issued by the Matawan Recreation Department.

"We are pleased to announce that the Grand Marshall for this year’s parade is lifelong Matawan resident Mike Plant, a veteran of the United States Marines," Recreation Director Deirdre Ring said in the release.

Plant began his military service with the United States Marines in 1988. He was deployed to a number of foreign countries including Okinawa, Japan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. After returning from Kuwait, Plant was promoted to Corporal and served on the General's Command Staff until he was honorably discharged in 1992.

The parade will begin at St. Clement Roman Catholic Church at and continue down Route 79 and along main street before coming to an end at Memorial Park.

All veterans are invited to march in the parade.

A brief ceremony will be held at the end of the parade in Memorial Park in honor of all the men and women who have made the supreme sacrifice for America.
