JCP&L: Local Equipment Upgrades Made to Improve Service Reliability

The utility company recently finished making improvements to circuits in Aberdeen and Matawan, JCP&L said.

Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) recently completed upgrades on circuits serving Aberdeen, Matawan, Atlantic Highlands, Middletown, Howell and Wall Township, according to Rob Morano, a JCP&L spokesperson.

The upgrades included replacing wire and installing additional lightning arrestors and spacers, or devices that separate wires and protect lines from overloading. The arrestors and the spacers should help limit the frequency and duration of power outages, Morano explained.

According to JCP&L President Don Lynch, the circuit improvements are part of yearly planning and maintenance.

“Circuit upgrades are a result of the planning and analysis we do each year,” said Lynch. “The planned projects serve to reinforce the distribution network serving our customers.”

In February 2012, JCP&L announced  on projects the utility company said are "designed to improve service reliability and help meet the increasing demand for electricity in northern and central New Jersey."
