Find a New Friend During National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

It's National Shelter Dog Month. Make a difference in the life of a dog by adopting from shelters and rescue groups, like Castle of Dreams.

October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and this week Castle of Dreams Animal Rescue (CODAR) sent Patch six dogs looking for a permanent, loving home.

CODAR is an Aberdeen-based, non-profit canine rescue group that takes in dogs from high-kill shelters and puppy mills along the east coast and works to find them any necessary medical attention, foster care and a forever home.

Information on each pooch is included in the caption under their photo, as well as below. If you are interested in adopting any of the animals in the slideshow, fill out the application online atwww.castle-of-dreams.com.

Gus is a long haired Doxie rescued from a Sanctuary that went under. He is such a happy guy, full of love and life. When we first took him he was playing with a rock, but once brought to his foster home and given a few toys, he is loving life. He loves playing with toys! He is such a sweetheart, and to think he may not have had toys for the first part of his life really breaks our hearts. He gets along with other dogs, he barks at cats a little, but it seems he only wants to play with them. Great being held, with children, and just about anyone. Neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

Leena

Leena is an adorable Yorkie that is full of love to give. She wants to be with her person all the time and is very affectionate. She gets a little quirky with other dogs, but does like them as well. I think she just really wants all of the attention because she is an attention hog. Loves car rides, loves walks, and loves wearing clothes. We think she is about 7 or 8, but has the personality of a pup and loves to play with her toys. Fetch is her favorite game! She was neglected and pulled from the shelter. She is a little quirky so we prefer a home without children. She follows her foster mom from room to room, and needs to be where ever you are in the house.

Stewie

Stewie was rescued from a hoarding situation along with 130 other pups. He’s a bit shy but Stewie has grown to be a loving and friendly little guy. He weighs around 15 pounds, is about 1 to 2 years old, neutered and housebroken. He loves playing with his foster's other dogs a huge Doberman and a Bernese Mountain dog. He is shy until he knows you, but then he’s your best friend forever!

Marley

Meet Marley! They say he is a bichon/poodle but this foster mom doesn't see that. I see a cock-a-poo favoring more of the cocker spaniel side of the family.  He is approximately three years old, up to date on shots, neutered and potty trained. He loves to play with his toys and gets along with his foster friends.  He has a personality that gets attached to his person, and becomes anxious when he can't see them when out and about. When he is home he has the comfort of knowing his person is coming back. At first he became very excited but now he is doing great. Marley will make a great dog with a little bit of understanding and patience. He has made great strides and needs his new forever home to continue his growth. He sits on the couch and watches TV and is very content to be petted and adored! Do you have the love that this wonderful dog needs?  If so, please put in an application and give a deserving dog a home!

Sawyer

Sawyer is a happy, comical little guy, approximately 18 months, 15 pounds vetted, heartworm negative, good with dogs, cats, loves children and women. He’s leery of men when he first meets them, never aggressive just barks at them. He need a little patience to get over his fears, but he is such a happy wonderful dog who bonds instantly once he trusts you. He loves to play with other dogs and he is such a sweet boy that deserves a chance. He was rescued from a kill shelter in Kentucky with another brother. The brother was adopted and know it is his turn to find his forever home. Please give him a chance.

Winston

Winston is a Lhasa Apso who is looking for his forever home. His new family should be knowledgeable about the breed, no small children and willing to put in the time needed to help him adjust to another family. He doesn't mind getting groomed and loves his chew toys. He chases the cat (not his favorite). When company comes he sizes them up first and then jumps up to be petted! If you are looking for a cute face and love Lhasa Apsos' then Winston is the one for you!
