Seasons Matter at Locally Owned Outdoor Service Company

Operating year round, this Aberdeen business can do everything from fixing your sprinkler to plowing your driveway

It's just a matter of the seasons at the Aberdeen outdoor service company Seasons Matter, Inc, located on Route 34 near the border of Marlboro.

The company found it's roots about thirty five years ago while Jody Vaccarella was working at his family's bar on High Street near the , in the building that is now Fitness City.

The bar was passed through the generations, and when Jody came to own it he switched the name from Al's Bar to Jody's Tavern. While there, he began servicing lawns part-time.

Little by little, the small lawn cutting business began growing it's customer base. In 1986, Jody officially incorporated Vaccarella Group Lawn Maintenance, explained his daughter Amanda Medina.

In 2006, Vaccarella Group Lawn Maintenance was acquired by Seasons Matter, Inc, which Jody's wife Cathy Vaccarella owns and operates. With the acquisition, Cathy and Jody, their two daughters Amanda Medina and Anna McPeek and their daughters' spouses Carlos Medina and Kenneth McPeek were officially prepared to tackle every season.

"As we got older and married, our husbands began helping too," Medina said. "It really is a family business."

The company has between fifteen and twenty employees. It offers services for both commercial and residential properties, including weekly lawn mowing, irrigation system maintenance and repairs, weed and insect control, landscape design and installation, computer design imaging, sod or seeing, mulch or stones, stone walls and borders, aerating, and paver patios, just to name a few. In the winter, they offer snow plowing, snow hauling, sanding and salting.

Seasons Matter also does grading, land clearing and trucking, and rents tandem trucks, Skidsteers and Bobcats. They added a full sprinkler parts store two years ago. The store has a wide variety of parts and the next closest store with that type of variety is in Freehold, Medina said.

"We do everything. Just about everything and anything," Medina said.

Times are not always a walk in the park for the small family business, however.

"There's competition with companies that sprout up every year. They come up and charge so little, and with us being a legitimate company with overhead and insurance, it can be difficult," Medina said.

She also noted that rising gas prices are a challenge, because their trucks, lawn mowers and whippers are just some of the machines that run on gas.

Despite the challenges, Medina loves working with her family in the town where she grew up.

"It's fun. I wouldn't want it any other way. I think I'm really lucky to be able to work here," Medina said.
