Moe's Brings Southwestern Food to Marlboro

The new restaurant is set to open at the end of July.

Moe’s Southwestern Grill is coming to Marlboro, and they are gearing up to offer affordable Mexican style food to the masses.

Nori and Kashif Khan are two brothers opening their third Moe’s location, and their passion has continued to grow with each grand opening.

“I love Moe’s. I’m one of those franchisees that can’t go without eating it. I’m so addicted to the food,” Nori said.

In addition to its new Marlboro location, set to open July 26, the brothers own franchises in North Brunswick and on the Rutgers University campus. In the future, the hope to open in Holmdel and East Brunswick on plots they currently own.

In Marlboro, the Khan brothers completely gutted what used to be Ricky’s Candy, Cones and Chaos in the .

After being approved by the Marlboro Planning Board in May, the Khan brothers are going through inspections and decorating their new location, eager to hopefully open next week.

Nori’s favorite thing, no matter the location, is the consistently friendly atmosphere.

“Our crew screams ‘Welcome to Moe’s!’ as soon as someone walks in the door,” he said. "The kids love it."

The Moe's menu ranges anywhere from $2.99 to under $10, with burritos, taco bowls and more. Everything is fresh, Nori said. You won't find a microwave or freezer in the entire restaurant, everything is kept in refrigerated spaces and made to order. Even the chips and salsa are made in-house, and as a bonus, they are free.

Nori said Moe's has a leg up on the competition. While other quick service chains are striving to offer fresh ingredients and local, organic ingredients, Moe's is 100 percent there.

"Our chicken is cage-free, our tofu is organic, our beef is grass fed," he said. "We're dealing with a food-conscious society."

And customers can order online, or on their smart phones through the Moe's app. Nori said the food will be ready for pick-up in under 15 minutes.

The menu? Full of pop culture references. The Art Vandalay vegetarian burrito is a throw back to Seinfeld, and the Joey Bag of Donuts is an homage to The Godfather (or The Sopranos).

"Our names are ridiculous," Nori said. "People get a laugh out of reading our menu."

It isn't just fresh food customers will be getting, Nori said the franchise is all about music and fun. Moe's stands for Music Outlaws Entertainment, and the franchise originated in the year 2000 in Atlanta, GA. Recently, it was named by Quick Service Restaurants magazine as one of the best franchise values in America.

"It is something totally different to bring to the table," Nori said.
