Matawan's D'Bella Salon to Offer Cuts for a Cure

The October fundraiser will benefit the Susan G. Komen foundation

Join the fight against breast cancer by getting a hair cut at D'Bella Salon in Matawan.

D'Bella, located on Matawan Road in the Townsquare Shopping Center, is offering hair cuts for $20 for both ladies and gents on Sunday, Oct. 14. All of the money raised during the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, according to salon owners Eileen and Robert DeSanto.

A product basket filled with salon quality brands, such as Redken, will be raffled off that day. Customers can also relax and enjoy food and beverages donated by Parkway Deli of Matawan.

"Our salon believes in giving back to the community," said DeSanto.

Breast cancer is a cause that touches home for the couple, as Robert's mother battled the disease a few years ago and had to undergo a double mastectomy.

"It's really important that people donate ther time and their money. It helps raise awareness to the community that they need to help support these foundations," DeSanto said.

While October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it also marks D'Bella's one year anniversary. The couple believed that raising awareness about and money for breast cancer was an excellent way to celebrate.

Eileen worked as a hair dresser in the Matawan area for about fifteen years, and after much encouragement from her clients, friends and family, she decided to take the plunge and open her very own salon.

Despite stories of a challenging economy, D'Bella's has found success and a loyal collection of customers, DeSanto explained.

"We have gotten a great response, our clientel is up; our customer retention is very high. People are very happy with their services. They like coming to a place that feels like a family-type salon."
