Some Good News: The Donuts Are Back!

Dunkin' Donuts at Rt. 34 & Broad has plenty now, after high demand depleted their supply Sunday morning.

Donut lovers in Aberdeen, Matawan and Marlboro can take heart now:
The shelves are stocked again at the Dunkin' Donuts at Rt. 34 and Broad Street.

That was especially good news for NJ Transit commuters on Tuesday, since the trains were running again and the Broad Street Dunkin' Donuts is a popular stop along the route to the Aberdeen-Matawan train station.

When residents here woke up Sunday morning, it was a different story. Many were without power.

Not having power isn’t so bad, right? Right. That is, until you realize how many things in your household plug into the wall. Along with no lights, this can mean no access to some essential, everyday items.

Like coffee. Especially coffee. Maybe breakfast, too. Imagine all of your kitchen appliances and lights being out of order at the same time. This means the toaster, microwave, coffee pot and stove are all unavailable for your normal morning routine.

With this in mind, it’s no wonder Dunkin' Donuts on Rt 34 and Broad in Matawan had enough patrons to form a line out the door and around the corner Sunday. For those who went there expecting a hot cup o’joe and a warm pastry yesterday morning, some may have been disappointed.

That’s right - Dunkin’ Donuts ran out of donuts, the staple of their entire business. Many quickly prepared to substitute a bagel or a muffin in place of their original order. Don’t worry, all caffeine addictions were still satisfied.

Why, you may ask, did Dunkin’ Donuts experience a donut shortage Sunday morning? Well, there was a hurricane, after all.

One Manalapan man said, “Well, the power is out, so we just came here. Maybe there are too many people.”

Others were speculating that the staff just wasn’t able to get there in time or at all Sunday due to the storm, leaving little or no time to prepare before the morning rush. But even with lines of people out the doors, Dunkin’ Donuts employees were able to keep everything moving quickly and efficiently that morning, working with what they had.

And now, what they have once again includes all those donuts.
